The state government had released fund for establishing the coaching centres in the universities a few months ago. On June 11, the department had asked the universities for refund of unspent money. But eight universities have not refund the money yet. The department has not clarified about the amount.
These universities were- Utkal University Bhubaneswar, Berhampur University, Sambalpur University, Fakir Mohan University Balasore, Ravenshaw University Cuttack, Rama Devi Women’s University Bhubaneswar, GM University Sambalpur and North Odisha University Baripada.
“You were requested in June to refund the unspent balance available at your end under the scheme “Civil Service Coaching Centre”. But none of the universities have refunded the unspent balance to this department even after lapse of six months. Hence, you are requested to take immediate steps for the refund of unspent balance,” said additional secretary Rajashree Mohanty.
Main purpose of the centre was to prepare the students to face India’s one of the most challenging tests and increase the number of candidates from Odisha getting success in the civil services examination.
It is noticed that universities could not conduct the civil services coaching classes properly. It had prompted the department to tie up with private coaching institutions to provide IAS coaching to candidates from Odisha.
The state government had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Dhyeya Educational Services in March last year to provide IAS coaching to students of the state. It has already conducted the coaching of 100 students for the year 2019-20.
The state government with the help of the coaching institution had started providing quality civil services coaching to those who cannot afford expensive civil service coaching outside the state.
