The government has taken this decision after considering the improvement in Covid-19 situation in the state and realising huge academic loss of students due to discontinuation of physical classroom teaching since March last year.
“The state public universities and government as well as non-government degree colleges coming under higher education department are hereby directed to commence physical classroom teaching for students of 2020-21 final year UG/PG courses from January 11. And considering the university grants commission (UGC) guidelines, the
following academic calendar is hereby prescribed for the 2020-21 final year
UG/PG courses,” said the government notification.
The department has also come up with examination and result publication schedule for penultimate and final semester tests of final year UG and PG students. According to the notification, classes of penultimate semester (previous semester of the final semester of the UG and PG final year students) will be conducted between January 11 and March 15, while examination will be held for this semester between March 16 and March 31. Results of this examination will be published by April 30.
Similarly, physical classes for final semester courses will be held between April 2 and June 15, while examination will be conducted between June 16 and June 30. Results of this semester will be declared by July 15.
If any institution has yearly system instead of semester, classes will commence for final year courses from January 11 and continue till June 10. Examination for this final year course will be conducted between June 11 and June 30 and results will be announced by July 15.
The department has also issued guidelines for conducting physical classroom teaching. According to the guidelines, physical classes shall be held in regular manner to cover all chapters of the syllabus irrespective of coverage of some chapters by on-line mode. Whenever possible, the physical classroom teaching shall be recorded and shared with absentee students.
Hostels will be opened from January 10 only for 2020-21 final year UG/PG students as well as PhD, MPhil and other research scholars. All possible Covid-19 prevention protocols shall be followed in hostels and in the classrooms.
To compensate the lost days, physical classroom teaching shall be conducted on all days except the examination period, Sundays, January 26 (Republic Day), February 16 (Saraswati Puja) and April 1 (Utkal Divas).
